BE PART OF THE EXCITING 9TH ANNUAL ASSE KIDS’ ‘SAFETY-ON-THE-JOB’ 2011 POSTER CONTEST FOR KIDS AGED 5-14

ASSE members reach out to their communities through the annual ASSE kids’ poster contest about the importance of being safe on the job and to educate young folks on workplace safety and the occupational safety and health profession. We hope you can join the fun this year. The contest is open not only to ASSE members' children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, but to all children (such as those of co-workers) and schools. The only requirement is that the child/group be sponsored by an ASSE member, the ASSE member number must be on the entry form.

The contest is open now! It runs from September 19 through Valentine's Day, February 14, 2011 for children aged 5 – 14, it is broken down into five age groups -- 1) ages 5-6; 2) ages 7-8; 3) ages 9-10; 4) ages 11-12; and, 5) ages 13-14. Contestants’ posters should be no larger than 11 x 14 and BEST ILLUSTRATE BEING SAFE AT WORK. First place winners receive a $5,000 savings bond, second place winners receive a $500 savings bond; third and fourth place winners receive a $200 savings bond. International reach -- First place winners are also featured on the annual North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week poster distributed worldwide.

NAOSH Week is from May 1-7, 2011. Occupational Safety and Health Professional Day (OSHP) is May 4, 2011. The NAOSH 2011 theme is ‘Celebrating a Century of Safety’. We will also be highlighting transportation safety and efforts to reduce distracted driving.

All poster contest winners, entrants, family members, ASSE members, OSHA Alliance partners and guests are invited to attend the NAOSH 2011 kick-off events Monday, May 2, 2011, at:

·         The U.S. Department of Labor -- ASSE President Darryl C. Hill, Ph.D., CSP, will be host to the NAOSH 2011 kick-off with OSHA officials and Canadian Society of Safety Engineering’s (CSSE) Andrew Cooper

·         The U.S. Capitol for the ASSE poster contest recognition ceremony

·         The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., for a special educational program for the young ASSE poster contestants and a behind the scenes tour

Many other events will be taking place throughout N. America during NAOSH Week and OSHP Day. More information will be coming.
