Minimum qualifications
: Possession of a baccalaureate degree in a basic science and other course work in fields related to the program. Two(2) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for health and safety inspection and enforcement activities dealing with industrial and/or construction activities; or equivalent education/training or experience. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in occupational health and safety as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with occupational health and safety and methods and procedures used in conducting safety inspections. Considerable knowledge of fall protection, confined space entry, machine guarding, etc., as it relates to occupational health and safety. Considerable knowledge of methods and procedures used in conducting facilities safety inspections. Considerable knowledge in reviewing construction plans and specifications. Considerable knowledge of general practices and methods utilized in injury/illness prevention programs. Demonstrate ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problem and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials. Desirable qualifications
: Experience working with craft unions and various trades is preferred. Experience in college/university health and safety program. Certification and experience in teaching the 10-hour General Industry Outreach training. Professional certification from nationally accredited organization such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
Pay range
: Pay Band B, $3582 per month (minimum)

SAFETY JOB SUMMARY:

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:

Conduct investigations related asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold and provide oversight and management of contractors conducting asbestos, lead-based paint, or mold remediation activities.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and conduct investigations and remedial activities related to asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold;
Determine technical method of investigation best suited to project requirements;
Collect samples related to project (air, lead paint, asbestos, mold, etc);

EDUCATION AND/OR WORK REQUIREMENTS

Minimum qualifications
: Graduation from an accredited four year university with major course work in a basic science and other course work in fields related to the program. Three years of progressively responsible professional experience in a hazardous waste management program and/or occupational safety and health inspection and enforcement. Possession of the following competencies in technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledges, skills and abilities as indicated. Thorough knowledge of Federal and State regulations pertaining to hazardous substances, hazardous wastes, and general occupational health and safety. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental health, occupational health and safety and industrial hygiene. Thorough knowledge in the collection, handling, and processing for shipment of hazardous wastes. Thorough knowledge of methods and procedures utilized in making safety inspections, identifying occupational safety and health hazards and methods for abatement of such hazards. Description Safety Functions. EHS classroom instructions (240 hours) and on-the-job training (120 hours). There will be two training cycles, with 30 participants for each cycle. In addition, students may choose to attend the optional facilities maintenance training at the Windward Community College. Afterwards, HCC will assist students with job placement.
