ASSE Hawaii Student Section attends recent National Future Safety Leaders Conference in Nashville, TN. With 160 attendees, representing 20 different schools, the ASSE National Future Safety Leaders Conference, held Nov. 8-10 in Nashville, TN, was an opportunity for students to learn about the importance of communication and ethics as leaders in the SH&E profession. “Communication is key within the safety profession,” said keynote speaker John Drebinger, author of Mastering Safety Communication. “In order to help workers stay safe, you have to be able to show them why it is important to have safe practices.” In addition to Drebinger’s presentation, the event featured a panel discussion with safety leaders from various industries, breakout sessions with mock interviews and resume critiques. “I was impressed to see the turnout of students and young adults who were all so passionate about the safety profession,” says Katie Koleski, ASSE chapter/student services coordinator. “It was amazing to hear the questions that they asked, as they were sincerely interested in safety.” |
